We have a vestry!
With huge delight we can announce that our new vestry was elected on Sunday night at the Parish meeting. Welcome to vestry Clayton Clark, Ben Goebel, Eric Owen, Nancy Sung, Jeff Walton, and Emily Williams!
The process of getting our first vestry was essentially straightforward: ask the congregation for nominations, chat and pray with nominees, raise questions about passion, time availability and gifting… prepare a slate and vote! And so it was, but it also involved such a delightful time of having conversations with people who in the end chose NOT to be on the slate as well as those who were willing to stand. We have a wonderful community made up of so many people who are thoroughly committed to seeing God proclaimed and worshiped in South Arlington and beyond and I feel privileged to be one of the team who leads this church. This time round we had a slate equal to our vacancies so with our Bishop John’s blessing and that of the Canon for Church Planting, Rev. Tom Herrick, we proposed and executed a vote of acclamation to appoint them! Such a fun and noisy time.
And now?
The Fall has well and truly started - and on Sundays we will continue studying Acts until the end of November. And here are a few other things to look forward to in this season…
Some things are just the same….
We will be worshiping together ...
Every Sunday through November 24 we will be worshiping at Greenbrier Baptist - but come Dec 1 - we move to the Chapel at AUMC (Arlington United Methodist Center, 716 S Glebe Rd, Arlington, VA 22204) - make a note to be there and bring a friend!
We will also be doing other things together….
We will celebrate baptism together on Nov 3 - want to join in? (talk to Liz, liz@incarnationanglican.org )
We will serve together at a RILA clinic, exercising our hospitality muscles as we offer dinner and maybe (for some of us) brushing off our Spanish language vocab( date to come, Amy will have the details amy@incarnationanglican.org)
We will eat together after church (potlucks on the first Sunday: Nov 3, Dec 1), eating on the Pike on the 3rd Sunday (Oct 20, Nov 24).
We’ll give thanks together as we offer spaces at tables for Thanksgiving Dinner (Nov 28) - need a space? Got one to offer? (tell Liz).
We will prayer walk together (OK - and of course we will then eat brunch) - Oct 19 we’re praying in Nauk (reach out to Quauhtli, quauhtli.olivieri@gmail.com if you’re planning on coming).
We’re even going to hike together Oct 12, 9am meet at Scott's Run Nature Preserve East Entrance 7354 Georgetown Pike, McLean, VA 22102 …. (let Liz know you’re coming - suitable for ALL ages).
We’ll consider our culture together with another Q commons evening on Nov 1 (ask Quauhtli for more details)
And during Advent we will prayer retreat together Dec 11, 7.30pm at the Vicarage (Josie, josie@incarnationanglican.org has the details).
And, in many informal ways, we play together - there’s frequently a trivia team at the New District Brewery on Thursdays. Do you have WhatsApp? We have a group text (“GoldenShells”) for informal get togethers! (let Morgan, morgan@incarnationanglican.org know if you want to join it!)
But one big thing is changing!
Finally, we are going to move worship space together! Watch out for dates coming when we will have workdays at our new space - the chapel round the back of AUMC …716 S Glebe Rd, Arlington, VA 22204. There will be something for EVERYONE to do from painting, to making lunch, to tidying closets to laying carpet … come and join the fun on Saturdays in November. More details in the weekly announcements.
CULMINATING: 5pm, Dec 1, 2019 our FIRST service at The Chapel at AUMC, round the back …716 S Glebe Rd, Arlington, VA 22204. This will be a Family Sunday and it will be delightful! Come and join us, bring a friend as we worship together! And then on Dec 8, the Bishop will visit ....
Looking forward to seeing you there,
~Liz
