Small Groups: Common Tables

Several years ago about two feet of snow accumulated outside our window along Columbia Pike. Everything was cancelled that day, so after working from home for several hours, Ashley and I got a little stir crazy. Some friends who lived three blocks away kindly invited us over for chili and cornbread and of course we jumped at the opportunity. What normally took 10 minutes to walk took us 45 minutes as we showed up to their house sopping wet and freezing. The house was warm, the food was great, and my favorite part was the common  experience of friendship and the way it redeemed the snowstorm.

God built extraordinary bonds of friendship over a common meal — though I must say that the chili was uncommonly delicious! That moment reminds me that we are common people who need common conversation around common tables. Our Christian faith works itself out quite commonly, both in the Acts 2:42-44 sense of having all things in common, but also in the ordinariness of how we live out each day. This Fall we will be having Common Table Groups.

Common Table Groups

Would you consider hosting a group with another household? Each pair of households will have a simple (common) meal each week which is intentionally focused on inviting your friends and neighbors to your dining room table. The hosting households will provide a simple meal and space for dinner. People are invited to sign up and bring someone and something (if they are able). More information will be posted on our Small Groups Page in mid-August.
