Fall Small Groups
Friends,
As we establish our Fall rhythms, I want to invite all of us to consider joining a small group this semester. Small groups invite us into a life of prayerful friendship with God and one another. They offer us a weekly scaffolding to orient our lives Godward, no matter what our weeks may bring. So please consider participating in one this fall! Danny's Introduction to the Sabbath Group
Hi, friends,
I recently listened to a book called The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer. The thesis of the book is that, in the words of Dallas Willard, “Hurry is the great enemy of the spiritual life in our day. You must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life.” I don't know about you, but this deeply resonates with me. I have always been a slowpoke (ask Simone!), but the pace of life in the DMV has me trying to “keep up” with…I know not what. Trying to keep Sabbath is one of the things that has kept me sane(-ish…), and I’d love to do it with you!
This group is for anyone who’d like to invite the Sabbath/Shabbat in on Fridays, as the sun goes down (as our Jewish siblings have been doing for millennia) around a potluck meal. We’d love to have you over as early as 4:30 to finish cooking up a side dish or just hang out; we’ll officially start at 5:30 or 6:00 (whichever’s best for folks), discussing the aforementioned book around the table. We’ll then just relax together, play games, eat cookies…whatever way folks want to luxuriate in God’s goodness. We’ll say our last goodbyes at 9:00, but it’s totally ok to leave when you need to.
Kids who can participate / listen in or play independently (with parent supervision) are welcome!
